Cherry blossoms are easily one of my favorite things in this world! Easily. So when I saw that Boston’s cherry blossoms were in bloom recently, Rohan and I made a split decision to make a day trip out there to meet with our fave photographer for a family photoshoot.
What we thought would be an easy 3 hour drive, turned into a long 5+ hour trip to Boston city (one way). It was actually a really hot day and traveling in our un-air-conditioned car with a newborn was not a good idea in hindsight and meant for a lot of stopping on the way there. Although, by the end of the day it was freezing cold again… poor thing learned how to sweat and shiver all in the span of 8 hours!
Boston is up there as one of our favorite cities to visit. So when we touched base with Katherine (www.kangellphotography.com) and found out she was available, we jumped at the chance to visit again. If you have not yet checked out her work, you really should. And if you ever get the chance to work with her, you will not be disappointed. We actually have made a really good friend out of her, a connection in which it all started from a simple Instagram comment!
We wanted our family photos to be natural, but still aesthetically pleasing to the blog’s style and our home decor (for obvious framing reasons), so I opted to wear this cute fluted sleeve top from Banana Republic (sold out, similar here), along with this silky and extremely flowy mauve maxi skirt from Forever 21. I paired them with a cute pair of neutral tassel heels, and wha-lah!
Dressing up our baby girl is always fun. But I was determined to find her something that complimented the pastel theme without blending in too much and still being the focus of our images. I had found this gorgeous little green forest floral dress (and matching diaper cover) from Zara a little while back, unfortunately now sold out (similar here, here and here). The dress was still too big for her, so I got my mum to stitch the sides in to make it a little smaller so that it would fit her in time for the photoshoot – and it worked a treat! It changed the look of the dress and how it is supposed to sit on her, but I actually LOVED the end result, and the way it ended up like a little pleated pinafore dress!
We received this beautiful yellow striped swaddling blanket from Rohan’s parents as a pregnancy gift, before we knew that Everley was going to be a girl… and it was actually unplanned to feature in the photos, but when it ended up being really cool towards the end of the shoot, we decided to use it to wrap her up (as comfort for her was far more important than her outfit being cute). But when we received the photos back, we were absolutely blown away at how beautiful the yellow actually looked in the sunlight and against the cascading blossoms! Winning!
There’s just something about sitting under a pretty tree that just feels right. It eludes a feeling of delight, and something I cannot get enough of. I am treasuring these times together as a family while Everley is still so young (and portable) and love getting the opportunity to take her to all my favorite places and capture such precious memories and moments to remember.
Boston, check! Next stop, NYC.
