If there is one thing that sums up my shopping habits, it’s that when it comes to homewares and cute novelties, I absolutely LOVE to shop local. I think it’s important to support local businesses and economies and you can find the most unique, special and perfect gifts… just in time for Mother’s Day!
Now I’m going to take a wild bet and guess that 99% of mother’s drink tea! Is that stereotypical? Maybe, but it’s also a little something I like to indulge myself with. It’s positively divine! Tea and honey have so many powerful healing properties, so what a wonderful habit to get into by adding this treat to your daily routine. Plus, who wouldn’t want to start drinking tea when it looks this gorgeous?!
I found these little beauties at a local store on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, NY (my new-ish home). I’ve been in before to gawk, but this time I decided to buy some for myself in honour of Mother’s Day this weekend! I can tell you now, if you are indecisive, this is probably not going to be a quick store visit, as I literally could have spent hours in the store (much to my husbands dismay). It is a beautifully fitted-out shop that allows for aimless wandering and laid back tastings along the way.
Every tea has its own description and you can smell the tea leaves as you go. There are so many different types to choose from, but I decided to go with my favourite fragrance/flavour of rose. Generally, I drink black tea. The one I went with was called Madam Katrina of Yaddo, which encapsulates a little bit of black tea, orange (Earl Grey) and green tea. It is enhanced by scents of jasmine, rose and floral tones, complete with actual dried rose petals!
But don’t worry… it doesn’t just LOOK pretty! It tastes amazing! Maybe it’s the blend, but I think sometimes when things are made locally and with lots of love, it’s noticed. I personally want to go back and buy a million more!
NOTE: They are dried tea leaves, not tea bags, so you will need a strainer or teapot with the capability to infuse the tea before serving/consuming.
Now, this post isn’t all about tea. This amazing little local gem also sells many varieties of homemade honey. I couldn’t walk past the Wildflower Honey (featured in this post)… anything with floral scents and sweet small-town flavours, gets me every time. Smear some of this on your toast, or add it to your tea – both are amazing, I promise!
The only criticism I can find, is that they are too beautiful. I sometimes can’t bring myself to consume them as I feel they should be displayed (too pretty and yummy to eat on an average day). So, it’s completely up to you – you can keep them for special occasions, or treat yourself to the finer things in life! I’m choosing the latter.
NOTE: This post is not sponsored by Saratoga Tea & Honey. Which just goes to show how amazing I legitimately believe these products are. You won’t be disappointed!
